A Quick How-to on Mastering Your State
So I recently signed up for some Tony Robbins life coaching and I can attest to how great it is. While I’m not able to share all the learnings and content here. There are a few things that I’ve learned that I think will help anyone in their self-improvement journey one of which will be about mastering state (emotion).
If you want to learn to master your state – you have to know the 3 patterns that create any emotion (Tony Robbins):
1. Your physiology (what you do with your body)
2. Your focus and beliefs
3. The language you use and the meaning you create.

See your physiology plays a huge role in how you are feeling right now (emotion is created by motion). Ever notice how after a workout, usually your body is filled with dopamine, and your on a natural high? Well that’s because you’re activating your physiology. You have to move that body!
Next whatever you focus on is what you’re going to feel. Your amygdala (primarily involved in the processing of emotions and memories) gets hijacked by what you constantly focus on. So if you’re watching negative news all the time, guess what? You’re going to start to feel depressed, aren’t you? It takes a certain sense of detachment and emotional intelligence to empathise with what you’re seeing on the TV without being caught up in it. Conversely, if you watch uplifting content, read inspiring books and listen to great podcasts – it’s going to leave you feeling inspired and motivated. What you focus on is what you’re going to feel.
Lastly, the language you use and the meaning you create have a dramatic impact on your state. You can be feeling on top of the world one minute but if your internal language is “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good enough” – guaranteed the feeling will be short-lived. “See if you want to change your life, you have to pay attention to the words you repeat to yourself.” (Tony Robbins) We have to pay attention to the kinds of questions we ask, and the words we use and it helps to use incantations along the way!
If you consistently practice the 3 patterns regularly in combination, you would be well on your path to mastering your state.
