And now On YOGA

Today’s topic is Yoga. I started a few years ago and its part of my daily morning routine. The importance of Yoga and Mind-Body Awareness cannot be understated. When the word Yoga is mentioned, it should be understood that there is more to it than simply twisting, bending and doing some poses. Yes there are asanas and postures associated with the word – however essentially it means union. So essentially you are ‘Yoking’ or as you practice Yoga, you become in union with existence (everything around you).

Note there are trillions of cells in each human and approximately one million cells die in your body every second. However, your body is also producing millions of cells to replenish what is lost. Just let that sink in. There is a lot going on in our bodies alone than what we are actually conscious of. In the past, I used to think that intelligence was only stored in the brain. That is not true at all. In fact, it is spread all over your body from your head to your toes.

I have learned from my Guru that the yogic way looks at the human body in 5 different layers or sheaths. Essentially he says “that whether you remember it or not your great, great, great grandfather’s nose is sitting on your nose.” (Sadhguru) So what is the relevance of yoga to mindsets? In the previous post, I wrote about identity and I mentioned how having a broader identity is much better for you and those around you.

Similarly, when you start practicing yoga regularly, aside from the physical benefits, yoga gives you much better mind-body awareness. Over a prolonged time as you progress further in your journey – your intelligence, memory, sharpness of intellect – all of these things can be enhanced. This not the only reason I practice Yoga. There are many other benefits such as good health, better breathing, longevity, flexibility, adaptability and resilience. All these traits will come naturally if you don’t already have them. Furthermore, you sense of perception becomes enhanced and you start to live life with a sense of ease.

Essentially, once you are established in Yoga daily – life starts to happen a lot more the way you want it; rather than life happening hap-hazardly to you. It is your choice, how much of your own life, you want to take control. Furthermore, wherever you go, if you take yoga with you – you will see the benefits come progressively as your memory and intelligence work phenomenally for you. With age, it will get sharper and better compared to those who don’t do yoga regularly. Set your self up for life.
